Spiritual Gifts and Service/Ministry Opportunities

A spiritual gift is a special attribute given by the Holy Spirit to every member of the Body of Christ, according to God’s grace, for use within the context of the Body.  Following is a list of opportunities, broken down by category, where you can exercise your God-given gifts and talents. If you are unfamiliar with the term “spiritual gifts” and would like to learn more – including how to identify your specific areas of giftedness,


ADMINISTRATION

Spiritual Gifts: Administration, Leadership, Creative Communication,

Office Help: Parish Mailings: parishioners who are available during the daytime hours are needed to help stuff and put labels on parish mailings, as well as sort them according to zip code for bulk mailings. [as needed]  (504) 895-8697 – or - churchoffice@annunciationbroadmoor.org.

Stewardship Committee: has as its goals to encourage greater participation in parish life; foster a sense of parish ownership by all; develop an effective approach to promoting each parishioner to share their time and talent with the parish; and plan ways to promote generous, grateful giving. Phone From Home: parishioners willing to make contact with other parishioners by telephone on an as needed basis. Contact: Maureen Young (504) 897-3420 – or - maureency@aol.com.

LITURGY & WORSHIP

Spiritual Gifts: Creative Communication, helps, faith,
prophecy, miracles

Liturgical Ministries: worship expresses who we are as the people of God. Parishioners can serve as Acolytes, Chalice Bearers, Home Eucharist Visitors and Worship Leaders.

Music Ministry: be a part of this liturgical ministry if you play a musical instrument or enjoy singing. There are weekly rehearsals for our Sunday Worship and special occasions. Contact: Maureen Young (504) 897-3420 – or - maureency@aol.com.

Altar Guild: provides a vital service in preparing the two altars for Sunday worship and maintaining/ cleaning liturgical items.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION & YOUTH

Spiritual Gifts: Encouragement, faith, helps, mercy, shepherding,+
teaching, hospitality, intercession

Baby-sit for Annunciation functions: volunteers do child care in the Nursery (evenings or during the day) for parents that are attending meetings. [occasional].

Sunday School Teachers: teach first through fifth graders one Sunday each month for forty-five minutes during the main Service. Curriculum and supplies provided. Plus an experienced teacher can assist you until you feel comfortable

Youth Outreach: spend time mentoring, working and worshiping with sixth graders through high school age; a wonderful opportunity to make an impact on our young people.

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS

Spiritual Gifts: Craftsmanship, giving, helps

Landscape Committee: work to develop, evaluate and implement the design for the garden areas around the building, usually taking a hands on approach. [4-5 times a year.

Gardening/Landscape: help with the care of the plants and grounds around the church and apartment building: watering, pruning, planting either on a regular basis or as needed. [seasonal]. Contact: Noel Prentiss (225) 773-8747 – or -  cotagrump@yahoo.com

Fall & Spring Clean-up days: Annunciation has 2 clean-up days a year. On a Saturday from 9 am to Noon parishioners come together to help with indoor cleaning as well as outdoor cleaning and yard work. [two times a year]. Contact: Noel Prentiss (225) 773-8747 – or -  cotagrump@yahoo.com

Help with Maintenance Projects: parishioners help with small projects as needed, volunteering your skill in making a needed repair or helping with a maintenance project. [occasional]. Contact:

PARISH FAMILY LIFE

Spiritual Gifts: Encouragement, faith, giving, helps, hospitality, intercession,  mercy, evangelism, shepherding, teaching, discernment, knowledge, wisdom, healing, miracles

Help with Homecoming, Thanksgiving Dinner, other special events. [as needed].

Men of Annunciation: a semi-organised group of men who meet for fellowship, discussion, support, prayer, football talk, bicycle riding, drum banging, etc. Anything (within reason) is possible.

Episcopal Church Women: all women of the Church are automatically members of the ECW. This group meets for fun and conducts various service projects throughout the year. Contact (504) 897-3420 – or - maureency@aol.com.

Prayer Network: When a need arises parishioners call the parish office with the prayer
request. The office calls the Network coordinator, who in turn call persons who have committed themselves to pray for special needs. [as needed / when called]. Contact:

Welcome Newcomers: help welcome and introduce new parishioners and families to the STA faith community through personal contact and home visits. Materials and training provided.  Contact: Jan Moppert (504) 453-1680 – or - jan.moppert@gmail.com.

Church Greeters: welcome people to Sunday worship with a particular eye to visitors and new comers, making sure they receive a smile on the way, handouts for the day and assistance in finding seating. Contact: Jan Moppert (504) 453-1680 – or - jan.moppert@gmail.com.

Retreat Opportunities: are offered throughout the year to providing opportunities for spiritual growth through prayer, reflection and discussion. These opportunities are listed on the parish web page and are often emailed to those on the resident email list.

Senior Pals: Annunciation is blessed to be a multi-ethnic and multi-generational community. Some of our members, now enjoying their “golden years,” need occasional help in running errands, picking up groceries, or just enjoy having a listening ear. Bible Study: meet with others to study, share and pray with Scripture. Sunday mornings in the Parlor (sitting room in the hallway behind the church) from 9:15a – 10:00am.

Wednesday Night Fellowship: a fun, weekly opportunity to meet new people, eat and pray together and study various faith-related topics. Every Wednesday night at 6:15p.

CHARITY, SERVICE & JUSTICE

The Annunciation Mission: Annunciation houses volunteers from all around the country – and world – coming in to help us rebuild here in New Orleans. You can join a work crew or come up and help serve a meal. Lots of opportunities abound.
